Rocket Gardens?

My ex is visiting in a few days and says he will mention it in the local pub (word spreads fast and any excuse for a drink) but he is going to put a bigger fence up on the roadside so that should put a little barrier up and then i can get a dog or a chicken :T (i cant decide yet). I like the thought of bartering - it might make the locals except the newbies
Everyone gave me gardening books for Christmas so i have plenty of things to read up on just now and looking forward to growing my own now. I am an impatient person though and i want to get stuck into it now!
Thank you for all the great adviceGrocery Challenge - Jan £4.42/£200.00

They might just be raiding the garden while it was 'unoccupied' and it's fine to let them know you are here now, and want your stuff yourself.
On the other hand, you don't want to upset the locals either or get a reputation for unfriendliness, so I'd follow the advice above and add 'if you let me know where you live I'll knock and let you know if I've got a glut you can have'.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Well, if the ground isn't frozen at the moment, it possibly wouldn't hurt to sow some onions and garlic if you fancy these. If you like sowing seeds then you can sow sweet peas now.0 -
Oh thank you
i will start that asap, i got big black gloves to wear in the garden to pick weeds out. I dont know if i will like it or about worms & bugs - i have never done anything like it before (i even bought ready done hanging baskets for the house and binned then when the flowers died) but im keen just now so thats the first step.
Thanks again for the adviceGrocery Challenge - Jan £4.42/£200.00

Hence why I made the point that there might have been a bartering arrangement between the locals and the previous owner. Its as well to keep to it - IF it suits you personally - as its a good way to "get one foot in the door" in the local community/get accepted/make friends. The point IS that they should have ASKED the new owner (ie you) whether this still applied. I'm bluntness personified usually:o - but I think its wise to assume that maybe...just maybe....initially some of the neighbours just may not have realised that the house owner had changed - rather than going straight in feet first assuming that they definitely DID know this.
I just recall a recent magazine article I read by someone who moved to the country and thought the neighbours were being particularly friendly when they kept rolling up on the doorstep with gifts of homegrown produce - until one of them made a comment about the asparagus she was expecting later from this persons garden. Cue - panic by the new owner - as she hadnt realised a bartering arrangement had been established by everyone with the previous owner and had dug up the plants she hadnt realised WERE asparagus...0 -

LOL that will be why the nearest neighbours have 3 chickens then
Today i managed to dig some weeds out of where the potato's i think were, and i even managed to pick a fat worm up and throw it in the field next door :T (im easily impressed) And as for the herb bit should i just cut it all down to the ground as they look rotten/ wet and miserable or wait till better weather?Grocery Challenge - Jan £4.42/£200.00

The worms will make the soil better for growing anything. Keep them.
I'd leave the herbs until spring, as many sprout back up again once the sun and warmth hit them.
It's really a time for structural stuff rather than digging frozen soil and getting cold, wet and miserable!
How about getting some tubs of bulbs and keeping them to brighten things up in the meantime?I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Yep i will do. Thanks for the suggestion
Im really excited about this and really want to wave a magic wand and have it looking all pretty lol (if only) I thought the worm might eat my veg, so threw it away to eat the farmers stuff lol I will leave the next ones i find now though.
