Driving is a modern necessity and insurance as it stands is leeching off that fact.

How is driving a necessity? Will those of us who don't drive die out through natural selection? Does not having a pink licence cut my life expectancy by 20 years?

Owning a car is a luxury, not a necessity. No doubt I would save 20-30 minutes a day on my 15 mile journey to and from work if I had a car, but my £80 a month train ticket serves me well and saves me a fortune to boot.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Started 15/03/2011.

It's compulsory for every generation to believe that the older generations had it easy.
It's compulsory for every older generation to believe that the younger generation are having it easy.

There are few good things about getting old, the bus pass just doesn't do it for me, but one thing it does bestow is wisdom.
When you get old, I hope you remember how you felt at 20 or 27 and recall that you had this rant here.
I certainly remember how it felt to be 15, 21, 28, 35 and how my vision of the world changed as I gained knowledge and became wiser.
  • The world isn't fair, so it is easier to accept that than fight it and everybody knew that the day they started primary school.

Also accept you are entitled to nothing and have to earn everything.

The solution is to get a good job so you can earn more money and live the life you want. If you get a first from Oxford or Cambridge, it is as close to the holy grail as you are going to get.

Unfortunately, the dirty truth is that everybody works hard and that genetics and lady luck has already decided your fate the day that you were born. If you're not born with an advantage, you'll just have to live with it and lower your expectations.

Many get by without driving. There are loads of reasons why some cannot drive a car.

Wow can't believe how many people have replied in the last few days. Look all I'm saying is = Capitalism makes people rich however, it's like a see/saw. The richer you get, the poorer some else is.
There are some people out there that would rob granny's all day if it was legal just to be rich. It's shocking how greedy people are!

We're all put on this earth, however, some of us are disadvantaged than others (ill health etc).
If someone is born ill or disabled it isn't their fault. They can't do anything about it but they shouldn't suffer in poverty because of it. I believe the state should provide a free carer for everyone that needs help.
WE NEED TO RAISE THE STANDARD OF LIVING FOR EVERYONE EQUALLY ON A GLOBAL SCALE!
I would gladfully take a decrease in my standard of living knowing that I've made people's lives better in India or Africa. Why is everyone so selfish?

Capitalism isn't going to work forever.

WE AR CONSUMING SOMETHING LIKE 1 AND A HALF EARTH'S WORTH OF RESOURCES!
The oil has peaked and will probably run out in another 50 years, then what!
And what about the rise in global population?
I don't think anyone should be allowed to have more than 2 children, it's getting out of control. You should get family credits for your first two kids but the 3rd you should be fined for.
WE CAN'T KEEP LIVING HE WAY WE ARE CURENTLY! THIS GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS IS JUST THE BEGGINING!
What are you ready to give up?

But you don't need to suffer a "decrease in my standard of living". Not when it comes to making "people's lives better in India or Africa." We've bought Oxfam Unwrapped vouchers for a couple of years now:

    http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/content/unwrapped/ecards.html?intcmp=hp_takeover-column-1_shop-ecards_241210

and the starting price is a couple of pints down the pub.

Well worth you "gladfully" following suit -- unless your current standard of living is so dire you can't even afford that?
