Minimum payment question

Ok so i am new to this as my payments are set up with my direct debit.

GF is awaiting her bank details and with being xmas not planning on them coming soon.
She has a cap one progress card and she told them she would pay over the phone.

Now the query is this.
Say my minimum payment is £5 and i pay £50 on the payment date they still take the minimum payment of £5.

So if my GF has a minimum payment to be paid by 30th jan of £10.
If we pay by how we normally would and pay 10x amount ( £100 ) would they still expect another minimum of £10 or is it just not like that with non direct debit payments?

hope you understand and can help her as she is not clued up and i use DD for mine

Some lenders have different practice, so if you pay an amount on top of your usual direct debit...some will still take the minimum payment pro-rata to your balance outstanding, others will still take the minimum payment no matter how much you pay before the direct debit date, but if you make a payment too close to the direct debit date, then all will take the minimum payment as well on top.....
  • If your GF does not have DD set up for the min payment then they won't be taking it. You just have to make sure you don't pay the bill too early in the month and then it will be fine and count as that months payment. After the statement but before the due date.

    Yes i know this.
Question is for minimum payment where no DD is set up.
Do they just want minimum payment or if say i paid double minimum 2 weeks before date, do they still expected minimum payment around the date of the original bill?

kinda sucky question but i have no idea how to explain it better

If you do not have any direct debit set up, then as long as you pay at least the minimum payment before the due date when your statement is issued then you'll be fine.

I *think* they still take the direct debit if the balance has not been paid in full, regardless of whether the minimum payment has been settled. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Would help me as well...

    Depends on the card provider.

If you have a DD set up, then some will take the stated minimum payment regardless of other payments you make.

Other companies will reduce the DD by any "manual" payments you make.

    Hope that makes sense :)
