frost stat on boiler

I have a new non combi worcester boiler installed in summer. All has been well until this really cold spell and I know whats happening I just dont know if its supposd to. The boiler is located in the back of a converted garage-concrete and unheated. When i now go to bed the auto timer switch is off and the room thermostat gets switched at zero but when the temp gets low the frost stat kicks in and all the radiators in the house come on and stay like that all night. Although not blasting out the heat still wakes me up. I realise this is protectction for boiler and am thinking that if i try to heat that room with a fan heater it may not come on but that will be expensive as its a leccie one. the cost of the heating being on all night is also worrying me.

For next year I was maybe thinking of building a cupboard round the boiler and insulating it? is this a good idea? Is it normal for the boiler to do this?

it will only heat them to a max of 7 degrees i think it is. this would not normally be warm enough to wake someone up and you wouldnt normally feel it as your house must be warmer than 7 degrees!!!!

It has to heat the frost stat to 7 degrees or whatever it is set to. House could reach normal daytime running temperature easily if boiler does not warm up frost stat effectively. Frost stat will be totally unaffected by house temps.

First of all I will state I am no heating engineer.

My frost stat is stand alone, perhaps there is a problem with the in-built stat?

I also have a pipe stat, I imagine frost and pipe stats will talk to each other, if you have a pipe stat, be worthwhile seeing what it is set at?

We have the same problem with our boiler being in our integral unheated garage. I insulated and draught-proofed the door, and now we are using less gas, so I think you cupboard idea is sound.

You will still require some amount of ventilation if boxing in boiler, also ensure any pipework outwith box are well lagged, if not already so?

I lined boiler house with kingspan, including ceiling, you say converted concrete garage, can I ask, converted to what?

If you have a boiler in an unheated outhouse or garage, you need to fit a pipe stat to work in conjunction with the frost stat.

This is fitted to the return pipe on the CH and senses when the returning water reaches the set temperature (say 10 degrees C), and switches off the boiler.

hi, its converted from a plain breeze blacked garage to an 'unheated room' with raised floor and plaster on walls but not much apart from that. Its a tandem garage which was just getting full of junk
