My own moral dilemma.........

I've just been sent an item of clothing that I ordered on the web. It's perfect in every way and I love it. There's just one "problem": they sent it twice!
There are a few options open to me.......
a) Keep quiet and hope they don't notice? And, erm, keep it for spare or flog it on ebay....or something.
b) Return one, say it doesn't fit, ask for a refund? I probably don't have the barefaced cheek for that one though!
c) Do the good thing and return it? Although, actually, it's quite bulky so that would have to be a "if you want it, come and fetch it".
I *think* I'm going to go for c) because, even though they're quite a big company, times are hard and it's an honest mistake and a relatively expensive item.
As it's only just arrived they might still notice and ask for it back; in which case it's a definite c).
I think I just want to put this out there and get some other opinions....what would you do?!

Good on you for chosing C. I agree they need to arrange collection. I am a great believer in Karma so I hope lots of good things come to you by being so honest:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0

contact the company they should be right offer to reimburse the postage0

Definitely Option C.... karma will repay you!
and they may just tell you to keep the 2nd item as a thank you for your honesty, you never know!

I know it's right....but giving up something for nothing doesn't feel very money saving
I have had a few small freebies before for doing the right thing so you're all right about the karma. I can't really see it happening on an item worth more than a few quid but you never know.
Maybe my lottery numbers will come up on the day it gets returned :rotfl:

I had a similar thing a few years ago - ordered a printer & got sent 2 (came in different size boxes and I was expecting several deliveries so I didn't realise). I phoned & they said they would arrange courier to pick up. Never heard anything so emailed saying I intended to keep, no reply. Gave to DD who then returned it to me when mine brokeA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Tell them to come and get it...Shouldn't have to put yourself out. Karma will sort you!0

What utter !!!!!!!! people do talk, Karma is not some magical force, it's simply you deciding that something good or bad that happens to you is because of something else you did previously, but that thing would most likely have happened regardless, you just artificially couple it with whatever good or bad thing you have already done. If you do buy into that karma crap, how do you know that this isn't a reward for a good deed you did the day before?
If people were being honest with you, they would largely say keep it, the companies mistake is your gain.We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
@zenseeker: I like your twist on it being reward for something I did the day before - that's one that I hadn't even considered
Anyway, karma or not (and I do agree that it's probably not but we're only having fun), I think I'll try to do the "right" thing and see how it goes. They allow 14 days for returns so I'll give them the same 14 days to collect it otherwise I'll flog it on ebay and maybe buy some random little old lady something nice with the proceeds......
That *has* to guarantee my lottery number coming up. Right?LBM Aug 2008: £22k loans, £5k O/D, £1k C/C

No. I stopped a nun getting run down by a tram right at the back of the Vatican (am sure JPII was watching out of the bog window :rotfl:) and I'm still waitingA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Your situation above is classed as 'property received by mistake' under the Theft Act 1968 s2(1)(a)
There are laws regarding unsolicited items, but as they have not sent the dress in the hope of forcing payment, you can not legally keep it.
You do however not have to arrange the return of the item, if it is a low value item, say £80 or below, you could been seen to be fair, should you send them a letter, recorded delivery, inviting them to collect the item, or you will dispose of the item in the way you see fit, with a reasonable time frame of 28 days.0
