Bank Made Mistake What can I do

Hi all,
I recently just received my credit card statement and was shocked to see that there was a late payment fee added to my account and also that my balance hadn't been paid from the last month!
When I looked further into the matter I found that when I called my bank up to make a direct one off payment from my account to the credit card on the 27th of the previous month the person in the call centre had sent the payment to a different credit card company.
After a few phone calls to the bank they admitted that the payment was sent to a wrong account and they would refund any costs I gained through their mistake.
When I called the credit card company they advised me that a default on payment would appear on any future credit applications and they also said that as it wasn't their fault they couldn't change the default status.
They did advise me however to speak to the bank and get them to sort it out.
Could anybody advise me on what the best course of action would be on how to get this situation sorted out as really don't want anything destroying my credit status.
Many Thanks

You would need to get the bank to contact the CC company in order for them to know they made a mistake.
How did the bank acknowledge their fault? By letter?
If so, sending a covering letter with a photocopy of the banks admittance letter, should do the trick.0 -
HI,
This has only just happend over the weekend the Bank admitted the error by phone and are carrying out an investigation into the matter which will take upto 7days to complete.
They have said they will contact me with regards to this matter and will reimburse any costs that have occured. However when I rung today to inform them of the costs as the asked me to they wouldn't listen to what I had to say and said to wait for them to complete their investigation.
Would it be best to get them to sort it out when they call or would it be better to do something about it sooner?
Many Thanks

The complaint's being dealth with. Patience. Banks have 8 weeks to fully respond to any complaint.
Given the weather (staff numbers low) and time of year (bank holiday galore), I wouldn't expect anything before first week of January.
When you have a response, then you deal with it. Unless you are trying to apply for a loan or mortgage next week, no need to hurry things up.0 -
