Gas or electric cooker? replacing cooker - which is better?

Hi all,
For about 10 years we have been using a freestanding gas cooker and i really would like to replace it. My OH was given it before we met.
I'd really like an all electric cooker and have seen a 'Belling' in Dixons for £359 inc del. It has ceramic hob and 'A'rated main oven.
We have little children and i feel that electric is better than more gases in the home.
My OH thinks we should get gas? I'm not a brilliant chef, just basic family meals, cakes and the sunday roast.
Any advice welcome please!!!! We don't want to spend alot but want a decent cooker.

we've just gone through this dilema. In our past 2 homes we've had to choice but to have an electric hob, however having just installed a new kitchen, I've now chosen a gas hob. I personally find them much easier to cook with (instant heat) plus when they're off they're off, unlike electric rings which take ages to cool down (makes simmering so difficult).
I was thinking of the ceramic hob purely for it's looks but because of the issues above, I've chosen gas - much better  Regards the oven, electric fan assisted all the time!0 -
We think it better to have a mixed fuel cooker, gas hobs and electric oven. The gas hob offers more responsive heat control, gives a visual flame even on low heat and you can still make a pot of tea and something warm to eat should you have a power cut.0

Electric hobs are a lot better than they used to be but have to agree with the others that I would go for gas every time.
For the oven I have to say that I havent tried one of the new style gas fan assisted ovens where you actually set a temperature and not just the "mark".All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I've always preferred to cook with gas, but in this house I have a large duel fuel cooker with gas hob & electric fan oven. I must say the oven is a great subsitute for a gas one & far more user friendly & economical than standard electric ovens. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
