LOGIK L8DHW10 Dehumidifier; anybody got one?

I'm considering buying this model, but nowhere on the web can I find it's weight, whether it'll work with a plug-in timer or even if it's a compressor or dessicant type. Not to be confused with the Logik L16DHW10 model.

  • I noticed that the local Currys had these back in stock, so I nipped down to have a look. Of course, the (female) assistant hadn't heard of desiccant; in fact I'm pretty sure she didn't know the other type were compressors. However, she opened a box for me and let me read the instructions. Incredibly, there was no mention therein about the type or whether it can be switched off with an external timer. In fact there was no info whatsoever about ambient temperatures, or even the weight of the machine (the instructions helpfully gave its dimensions though, as they are sooo difficult to ascertain).
So, Currys cannot tell me what type there own make is. This is akin to selling a chain saw online with no way of knowing if it is electric or petrol. Pathetic!
  • Hmm well. It has an Anti-frost device, which would point towards that its a compressor model as desiccant models don't require this as they can work in lower temperatures better then compressor models.

Any desiccant ones weigh very little (more than 50% less) compared to compressor types.
  • I hope this is helpful, I searched everywhere for info on this model, nothing available but my search eventually led me here.

Currys don't even have proper information and they sell it.

After days of research I decided that it MUST be a desiccant type, it seemed to be almost identical to the Meaco DD8L.

I was so convinced that it was a re-badged Meaco DD8L that I took a chance and bought one, it is identical to the DD8L except for the labels on the controls which are slightly different but mean the same thing, exactly the same weight and is definitely a desiccant type. It is NOT the junior version of the DD8, it is the full thing and includes the ioniser function.

Currys obviously have no idea of what they are selling, even the manual doesn't specify the technology and even tells you to stand it upright for 2 hours before first use, great advice if it was the refrigerated coil type but as far as I know meaningless for a desiccant type. The manual doesn't even mention that its vital that you don't just unplug this thing, it needs to be switched off at the unit and left for three minutes until the fan stops before unplugging, for cooling down reasons. If you Google the manual for the Meaco DD8L you will get proper instructions.

I have had this machine for 3 days now, its amazing, drawing an incredible amount of water out of the air. I previously had the refrigerated coil type, which failed recently after 2 years use, an Amcor AD140, capable of 14 litres a day, it NEVER managed to extract half as much water as this one which is only an 8 litre a day model. I believe this is down to a temperature issue, my house is always pretty cold :), the desiccant type works just as well as long as the temperature is more than 1 degree centigrade where the refrigerated coil type doesn't really do very much if the temperature is less than about 15 degrees centigrade.

The desiccant type is more expensive to run and does put out a little heat and probably not a good summer choice. For actual details read the specs on the Meaco DD8L, I have used meters and checked the power consumption and the details in the Meaco manual are accurate.

This is only my opinion but I believe it is EXACTLY the same dehumidifier.

For reviews and other opinions on this dehumidifier I suggest searching for info on the Meaco DD8L, so far I am really impressed with it which isn't something I thought I would be writing about anything with the LOGIK brand :)

As far as price goes I believe it is £149 in store but if you reserve it online and collect from store it is only £129 which is a good price for this machine.

I hope this info is helpful to someone.

    That's really interesting Quixote.

I bought this dehumidifier about a month ago, primarily to dry laundry, but I am blown away by its performance.

I had never owned one before so didn't really know what I was looking for in terms of technical spec. I only knew, from research on the internet, that I wanted a dessicant type, being lighter in weight, one with a specific laundry function, and a timer. I was also interested to see that some of them have an ioniser function but wasn't sure what benefit that would be. . . .lol. Fortunately I came across the Logik in Currys.

I hadn't read your post then but having found it in Currys on the internet at £129, I printed off the sheet and went straight down to the shop. In the shop it was marked at £149 and when I asked the assistant why she said it would have been £20 cheaper had I reserved it on the internet! I wasn't prepared to go home again and reserve it on the internet so I asked her to do it for me from the shop which they did and I got it for £129. . . . . bonus!

As you say, the instruction manual is sadly lacking in information. Having looked at the Meaco DD8L I am sure you are right. They are one and the same thing and the manual is MUCH better than that provided with the Logik. Thank you for that!

Having used mine only for drying laundry I am amazed how good it is. However it has had an added bonus. I always use the dehumidifier in my spare room and I don't know why but I always use the ioniser function. My son visited me yesterday and went up there to get something. He immediately said "This room feels different." I asked him what he meant and he said that the whole atmosphere in the room felt wonderful and asked what on earth I had done to it because it didn't look any different. I can only put this down to using the ioniser. It does make the atmosphere of a room so much lighter and brighter if that makes sense.

I live in an old cottage built in 1812 and there are some damp issues. I would love to have the dehumidifier on all the time, not just in the spare room but maybe on the landing to treat the whole of the upstairs, and the manual does suggest you do just that but I am concerned about the cost of running it. The manual does give some information on running costs but doesn't say how much more it costs to run on the different settings. Does it cost more, for instance, to use on the laundry function or if you have the ioniser on all the time? And how much more?

I would agree with you that it is a fantastic little machine and would recommend it to anyone.
  • Just wanted to help out here as I am a director at Meaco and spotted our name coming up in the thread! The dehumidifier is one that Currys bought a two or three years ago now and they are working their way through their remaining stock. Apart from various internal differences that I will not bore people with the one major difference between this dehumidifier and the Meaco DD8L series machines is that once the target humidity has been reached the Currys machine will run it's fan continuously to check the relative humidity, whilst the DD8L turns it's fan off to save energy and reduce noise.

Since this is a money saving site I thought it sensible to highlight this difference because it does make a very large difference to the cost of running the dehumidifier.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thank you, Chris. I registered to ask you if you could confirm that the dehumidifier in OP is desiccant.

I'd like to know this too. I bought one of these from Curry's yesterday (full price - £149. even though I reserved it online and collected it later, but as it seemed to be the only one left in every Curry's shop for miles around, there has obviously been a run on them! :p) I gave it a good try-out last night, just in the downstairs loo; the coldest, dampest part of the house, being right on the end and doesn't get any heat. We got new double-glazed windows and doors back in the summer and have suffered from horrendous condensation as a result of all the 'Sealing Up' of the house this Winter! So much for the 'Green' lot's obsession with saving energy in having everything sealed up! You have to use more energy to solve the extra problem caused by that!

Anyway, back to the Logik dehumidifer. Yes I agree with everything said above, it does seem a great machine, but what a meagre manual! Thanks for the tip about the Meaco DD8L all of you. I shall try and download a copy of that one. I have been puzzling about the ioniser; in fact trying to get information on that and what it is for, led me to this thread. All it said in the manual I have, is that the ioniser button "Selects the releasing negative ions function"! Wha...? We're not all physicists! I didn't have a clue what that meant until I Googled it. Glad I did because unless you really need the air in your rooms 'Purifying' all the time, continual use wears the filter out a lot faster.

One thing I would like to know is (I have never owned a dehumidifer before you see) can I use the water collected in the tank in my steam iron? My hubby says I can, and it does make perfect sense, but is it true?

Thanks very much to one and all for your input. I've learned a lot. Just one more thing however; even though this machine isn't actually described as 'Portable' it does have a carrying handle and it doesn't really weigh very much. I'm 70 years old and can move it around quite easily. ;)
