Not a helpful answer to the OP who was asking if they needed some protection for their new computer.
Just opened up the Mac versus non Mac argument.
(Both of course being PCs if we want to venture into real pedant territory):D

I stand by my statement & argue that it's extremely relevant to the Spyware debate - and you should also buy a Mac!

damn it, I think my jedi mind power is failing!!!!

Your original statement about Macs may well be true but as the OP had just got a new IBM compatible PC it was not helpful.
    (And I have both)

I'm not familiar with McAfee Security Centre but you need to read the Help files, to find out how to change your security settings to allow these downloads, possibly giving permission to these specific sites. A better option would be to install a download manager like Flashget to handle all of your downloads and give this program permission in your McAfee Security Centre.

Sounds like you need to go through all the internet options in the security center and enable downloading of files. It may just be set to full security - only allowing access to safe sites, no downloads, no activex or java etc. I'd suggest like espresso to go through the help files carefully and tweak your settings to allow you to do what you want but still be protected.
