Spellchecker for Outlook Express

Can anyone recommend a spellchecker for OE please? I haven't got any Office software on this laptop so no spellcheck. There are lots advertised online but wonder if anyone can recommend anything in particular?

Thanks - Liz

or if you can upgrade to windows live mail, the new version isn't compatble with XP but the previous version was.

Google toolbar has a spell check built in.
  • Although I'm no Firefox fan, like #2 I'd definitely recommended Thunderbird. When I went from XP to Win7 with my latest machine I tried Windows Live Mail and thought it was simply dreadful. I gave Thunderbird a whirl and even though it's marginally trickier to handle in the beginning, once you're up to speed it's infinitely better than what else is available for nowt.

Q2 - OK now I've downloaded Thunderbird and imported my OE accounts/messages etc. All fine. However, is there an idiots guide to using it? It all looks a bit overwhelming at the moment!

    Thanks

Impressed already Liz well done , try this for now http://www.cs.uwaterloo.ca/cscf/howto/thunderbird/.

If you need a calendar app too then get the Lightning addon from Mozilla too.

Of course there are a lot of us on here that will help if stuck

Thanks, but don't be that impressed - I've managed to import a load of messages from one of my webmail accounts that I dinna wanna import! However deleting them is easy enough, have been playing with the junkmail feature, I hope that is as efficient as it seems as it looks impressive. I've just received info about a new work email address that I need to set up from scratch, so will no doubt be back for more help. The Waterloo userguide looks clear, thanks for that!

...and all I wanted was a spellchecker!!!

You're Welcome, beware that the Guide is a bit out of date but a lot of the principles are the same. The Junk mail filter needs to be trained (don't we all;)) The message filters are very useful too, but we won't get you running too fast lest you stumble.

  • Once you're happy with Thunderbird don't forget to backup with MozBackup.
