Hi,
we have broadband through a router on our main computer and DH has a laptop which has a built in wireless but what do we need to do to it so that I can use the laptop without it being plugged into the mains. Internet works well whilst plugged into mains but as soon as you unplug you loose the connection and the screen goes darker.
I would like to be able to carry it/use it round the house without all the leads as Im addicted-lol!

Check your power settings on the laptop to make sure it doesnt disable the wireless adapter when on battery0

Is your router wireless???? can you check this. If it is you may need to enable it. What is the make and model numper of the router??0

It appears that you have two unrelated issues:
The first of the screen going darker is a power save setting which you should be able to change by going into the BIOS during startup, it is usually accessed by hitting the F2 key. On one of the pages there will be screen setting with how much power should be given to the backlight, if you want to always maintain a bright display set this to the full level, or match it to the setting of when on mains power which should be displayed next to the battery option for comparison.
The 2nd issue may be down to a number of things, firstly is that the router you are using is a wired router and does not allow wireless access, secondly it could be the wireless radio being switched off on your laptop or that the profile has not been created for access to your router and automatic profiling is not enabled.
If you could post the make of the router and model - I'm sure someone will be able to help and equally if you post the make and model of the laptop we should be able to determine the exact location of where you need to change the backlight settings.
Best Regards

dora,
see my last post.. http://192.168.0.1 for netgear.
you need to set it up with a wired connectionEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Netgears usually come with wireless enabled (both my DG834GT and DG834PN did). The acer I have has 2 buttons on the front... One for wireless and one for bluetooth. I think yours could be like that.
Failing that have a look at your Manual under "wireless" it should tell you how to activate it there0
