get an owl micro CM130 energy monitor, they cost £20 and will show you how much power you are using accurately so you could experiment with both methods (heaters and oven) and see which is cheapest.0

If it is electric thats even worse, it takes longer to heat up than gas and costs way more per KW.
It is electric, we have no gas.
Kim, could you take your grumbling elsewhere please.0 -
The two of them are as bad as each other. One half uses an oven to heat the kitchen. The other half uses two threads where one thread would seem to be more than adequate.
Yet again self appointed thread policeman at work....You really are the most boring miserable item on MSE....Get a life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you want to increase your post number try posting positively instead of your pathetic negativity0 -
Doesnt really matter whether you use the oven or electric heaters to heat the kitchen, bare in mind ovens tend to have halogen lights in them as well (dont know wattage, 40/60w maybe??) so add that to the consumption and bare in mind the more you use the oven the quicker it will break, dont know about you but I would rather replace a £20 electric heater over a £200 oven (+delivery, +fitting, +removal of old appliance, +nothing to cook with for a few days while you sort it out etc)0

Agreed, although the heaters are ours and the oven belongs to the landlord (and the heaters were a lot more than £20!).0 -

In that case both the oven and the heaters are almost certainly as efficient as each other in turning electrical energy into heat
The question is which is more "effective" in heating the room for any given amount of energy and it will be the heaters.
The heaters are designed to heat the air in the room whereas the oven is designed to heat the inside of the oven. The heaters will transfer most of the energy you are buying straight into the air in the room whereas the oven will use most of the energy getting the oven very hot and that heat will slowly transfer into the room.
The oven will stay a lot hotter after you have left the room and turned everything off as it slowly cools and releases the energy you have paid for into the room when your not there.0 -

Even with the door open? (see OP)0 -
I personally would prefer to use the heater rather than the oven only because the heater is probably positioned in a part of the room that is closer to where you sit down to eat breakfast, watch TV or relax. Whereas the oven is in the kitchen which will predominately heat that room and I don;t tend to spend that much time in the kitchen relaxing :-)Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
