Thats quite a spendy list for a 6 yr old.

Bag of chocolate coins, 2 satsumas and a walnut should suffice at that age

I bought Jenga for my twins' 6th birthday. They still use the blocks to build imaginary things :rotfl:

The Ds would probably be the most cost effective out of the consoles long term, and she can also play solo.

With regards to the phone, my DD is getting this one, only because it is was a freebie given to me (with £10 credit pre-loaded) when I took out a mobile phone contract. It states unlimited texts, so may be good as a stocking filler.

he wants a Ben 10 game to go on it, but I am putting my foot down. I don't want any fighting or shooting games.
Yay! Finally! There are other parents out there who don't let their children play and watch Ben 10!

OP, if you want something for the family go for the Wii. If you want something just for your DD then go for the DS. Agree with others' comments about her being too young for an XBox or mobile phone.

We let our son watch Ben 10 - he's perfectly normal, doesn't turn into random aliens and is top of his class?????! :rotfl:

    A 6 year old:

Has no need for a mobile phone.
xBox is probably too advanced, more for serious gamers.

    Get a :
DS if you dont mind her playing it constantly.
    Or
Wii if you want some control over the gaming (ie. not portable, easy to turn off).

  • Although I agree with the other posters that a 6 year old (or any pre-teen) has no need for a mobile phone, I also understand that little girls like to think they're grown up, handbags, dress up clothes, pretend make-up etc. How about getting one of these:

At 99p, it doesn't matter that she won't use it as it's cheaper than buying a toy one and once she gets bored of it, you can stick it into the kitchen drawer as a spare.

I'd also agree with a DS or DSi. Lots of little girls games for them and I'm sure you'll be able to montior the amount of time she plays on it.

There are loads of board games which are brilliant to help with learning and great for family time. Good luck!

but its still a phone that can make calls its not suitable for a six year old to have regardless of how cheap it is
