I'm not sure she is eligable for the grant, as you need to be in your 25th week by 1st Jan. It's worth checking out the government website for their due date cut off point, as you might just squeeze in on it if you're 23 weeks now.

Ah, I never thought of that!! Would be so annoying if she just misses it. Found a link vroombroom - hope it gives you more info:

The directgov website says "If you reach the 25th week of your pregnancy before 1 January 2011 you will still be able to get the grant" so if you reach 25 weeks on 29th December then you should still qualify.
  • 25th week is 24+1 weeks at the 31st of december. My friend phoned hmrc up and asked them what the 25th week meant, cause when you are past 24 weeks you are already in your 25th week, she got the answer that she needed to be 24+1 end of december to qualify.

Don't worry about sending the form off to late, they take forms in till the end of january I think to give everyone the chance of having a form signed (which needs to be done after you reach the 25th week) and to send it off.

So it looks like you might be entitled to both the health in pregnancy grant and the sure start maternity grant. (although the sure start maternity grant you most likely won't qualify for till after birth)

sorry I am confusing myself now:rotfl:I am now 23+1 so I will be 25 weeks on 5th Jan, so I will definitely miss it

I called my doctors this morning to book antenatal classes - they are booked up until June 2011, which is obv no good. Looked on NCT website and in my area they are £190 :eek: so I'll be giving those a miss and getting info from books and DVDs x

  • You only have to be 24+1 by 31st Dec , which is 8 days away, so if you're 23+1 today then aren't you 24+2 on that date? :)

  • Hi,
Prob easier to work out than weeks!! I read somewhere (think it was on here somewhere!?!) that the last due date eligible for the health in pregnancy grant is 21st April-prob easier to go by that than trying to work out weeks etc Although do check that out! but as others have said you are in your 25th week when you are 24 weeks 1 day pregnant.
  • Congratulations I have a 4mth old baby and we brought everything second hand except car seat and matress' for crib and cot. I used www.netmums.co.uk as it has a for sale, wanted and also a FREE section!!

Yes the girls are right - you will qualify for the HIP grant - BY ONE DAY!! Yipee! £190 that you thought you would not get. You only have to be in your 25th week of pregnancy which means 24+1! Ask your midwife at your next appointment for the form!

I am due on the 15th April so I am eligible but my friend is due 2 weeks after me and is not! Poor thing!
:D Finally decided to start growing up when it comes to money!:j
