New printer?

Hey all
I currently have Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop which is about 5 years old. It came with a free printer which has served me well for the odd bits I've needed to print. However I am now doing a uni course part time and need to print more off and am finding the printer a bit useless. It's a pain having to move it and plug in everytime I want to print, and the ink has run out and replacement ink is £20!
I'm after a new printer. But have no idea where to look for one that is compatable! Can all printers be installed on any laptop? I have Windows XP.
I ideally want a wireless colour printer and scanner, sub £60.
Any suggestions?
Should I wait til after Xmas for sales?

^by and large - yes! so long as drivers for xp exist -- and by and large they do /BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? :shocked: OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!
