Light Carpets

Hi all,

This might sound a little strange, But I need some advice on light carpets.

I have just moved into a rented property with my OH , cats + staffy.

My OH works as a tiler and daily he comes home covered in mess, dirt & dust.

My cats are now indoors since the bad weather has come, But my dog also comes covered in all sorts whilst on his walks.

Its starting to drive me crazy as I’m having to Hoover 4 times a day, Spray stain removing products on the carpet twice a day due to everyday marks being left behind.

How do you all manage to keep cream carpet looking clean & smelling fresh?

Mine, Constantly smells of damp.

Not the answer you are looking for but the only way I managed to sort it was to ditch the carpets. I still have cream carpets upstairs and a miele cat and dog used on the highest power strips all dirt out.

Don't have any pets, take off shoes in porch.
  • Rugs - lots of rugs.

I lived in a rented house with cream carpets and it was the bane of my life (I have a black and white cat who obligingly only sheds the black fur on light things and vice versa). Coped with the rented place by having rugs down absolutely everywhere I could, doormats at all entrances into the room with the cream carpet and being a tyrant with a vacuum cleaner (much to the cat's dismay since it's her arch enemy). Never wore shoes in the house - I used to keep my slippers in the porch and change straight into them as I got home)

Sadly if it's a rental it's not only likely to be a cream carpet - it's likely to be a cheap cream carpet which will end up looking cack whatever you do to it. Despite having rugs down everywhere we could - when we moved our furniture out it was still looking grubby where the rugs hadn't been and we've got someone booked to come and professionally clean it before we hand the keys back.

New place has cream carpets too - would love to rip them out and replace with laminate and rugs in the lounge but money does not permit at present so it's back to hoovering like crazy - thankfully these aren't cheap carpets so actually don't look utterly rubbish like the rented ones did.

In high traffic areas, particularly if damp feet walking in, a clear vinyl runner / drugget / carpet protector is excellent. - Not very atractive I know and they do need quite a long time to relax flat when new but they can easilly be put out of the way when company is expected. - And they really come in to their own if you have workmen passing in and out.
