Why is my shower so cold?

That is a reasonable element rating, maybe there is a fault?

I would phone around and ask for some quotes, shouldn't be a huge job.0 -
Donnaessex thanks for asking this question as the same is happening to me! I hope you get it sorted and get a hot shower very soon

This was the same problem my parents had. I am a new user so I cannot post links. Just a suggestion/idea below.donnaessex wrote: »Thanks Dan - so do you think the shower is broken then? If its not heating the water properly I presume so...
Search for buyaparcel.com then search for triton T80z and look for the white chrome at £99.99. You might find cheaper elsewhere????
Note it is a left or right entry shower and so simple to fit.
I purchased from here and it was delivered next day, excellent service and self installed same day.

Sorry. Forgot this bit.
Make sure you scroll down to the 10.5kw shower. Anything less will not suit.

Thanks for posting the link.
Do you know when I will be allowed to post links?

Dan.
We installed a 9.5kw electric shower a few months ago and it's fine in this weather. We have to have the temperature turned up much higher than normal, but still not to the maximum.
I don't agree that the OP must replace her shower with another 10.5kw.
Having said that, if the current shower is 10.5kw then at least they have the thicker electric cabling installed to run a highly rated shower. (OP - low kw showers can run off 6mm cable, higher power ones require 10mm cable - you might want to get an electrician to install your new shower if the old one is quite old to check you are using the correct cabling).0 -

Well she will not.
You don't have to agree. But anyone with an ounce of sense would not replace a 10.5 with a 9.5.
If she is running a 10.5kw then the wiring should be suitable.
Why bring an electrician into the equation? I am not an electrician or plumber so job done for £99.99.

All I have is an 8.5kw shower. It's fine. Flow rate is a bit lower than summer but it heats up to be quite hot. Actually it's too hot if it's on max. The circuit is just a standard circuit with 6mm cabling protected by a 40A circuit breaker so to install a higher rated shower would involve a lot of electrical work.:footie:

OP said she is a DIY numpty. There was no mention of how old the house or current electric shower are. If it's recent, no problem. It should be fine to just replace the shower as you say. If the shower has been there for a number of years then it might be worth getting a sparky in, just to ensure that the cabling being used meets current regs.
If OP has a friend/family member who is more DIY-minded than herself then them doing it should be no problem. But I'm not a DIYer (putting up shelves is as far as I get) and I wouldn't want to install an electric shower.
You're right that if all the cabling etc is rated for a 10.5kw shower then she might as well replace with a model of the same power. My point was simply that in freakishly cold weather our 9.5kw shower is giving us a decent shower. There is more choice of design and brand at 9.5kw (or even lower as some other posters on here have said) than 10.5kw.
When I said we have to turn the temperature up a lot, we've turned it up from the dial being at about 3 o'clock to about 5 o'clock. With the incoming mains water being 10-20 degrees colder than in summer, I suspect that even 10.5kw showers will need a bit of adjustment on the temperature dial.0
