Thanks all - I don't usually work from home, and the company has only installed publisher on a few of its computers (saving money I guess), so as a temporary thing it looks like the 30 day trial is going to be the way to go.

I might be wrong but I think google docs can view publisher files ad may give you an option to edit them 'in browser' or at least convert them to another format.
