I have really enjoyed her book and the approach she has taken to gardening. Each to their own I say x
Rummer, LJM, thats fine, I agree each to their own and I'm sure that many people will like her book and tv. OTOH, I think Jojo is right!
It was like they had a blue sky programming meeting:
X "what about allotments"
Y "Done by Joe Swift, badly, anyway there's all that dirt"
X "but gardenings in fashion again, Chloe's gardener even grew a carrot"
Z "I remember Father liked that Hamilton chappie"
Y "No, we need a Hampstead look, anyhow he's passed on"
Z "Shame that, Father said he mixed up flowers and those veggie things, all together"
Y " Veggie things"?
Z " Like peas and stuff"
Y "Hey, thats a good idea and so today too. But who could we get to present it"?
X "well, there's a bit of fluff on that GW disaster, she can't be too choosy"
Y "Great idea, lets go for a retro 60's feel, lots of soft focus!"
X " and chickens, theyre uber cool"
Z " and throw in some recipes and drinks like Whitters does"
X " Martini and peas, call it a peatini"
Shrill laughs
Y " Brilliant guys, its a wrap"0 -
I thought throughout the series and the book that she often referred to the fact that the approach she was taking had come from many different styles of gardening and she referenced a number of different organisations and sources of information to provide more detail. It seems to me that people are commenting without actually having watched the programmes or read the book. If her approach is not for your that is fair enough however it is appealing to many.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

OK Rummer, I'll stop now
Was feeling a bit stir crazy and that book was the last straw.
You can have Alys, I'll take Bob Flowerdew (in a platonic manly way, that is)

I think we`re being a little harsh, by the standards of modern television it was an average programme.
By which I mean;
a. trendy, property !!!!!! is out, gardening and `urban` is in. Boo sucks to all you daydream funders.
b. preachy (`gardening is a political statement ` ), lol
c. poor production values. eg she goes `foraging`. It rains. she says `oo its wet`.
having said all that, you might pick out a few tips. but please, do not leave nettle beer for two months, it will stink. one week, I`ve done it.Freedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).
(I desire) ‘a great production that will supply all, and more than all the people can consume’,
(Sylvia Pankhurst).0
