Karaoke

Whats the best/cheapest way for me to get karaoke in the house for parties?

Just now I have the playstation2 singstar thing, but quite frankly the song choice is rubbish and you can hardly hear people sing most of the time.

I'd also like a system where I can maybe buy or dowload (legally of course) new discs to build up a decent catalogue of tunes.

There are the stand alone Karaoke machine things, but I'm a bit wary that the sound quality might not be the best. Or do they play sound through the TV as well? (my TV has pretty decent sound)
The size of these stand alone machines puts me off a bit too. Could I get a cheapish DVD player that could play CDG discs?
I'm looking to spend under £50.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
