SIA badge and jobcentre?

Hi Folks
I had a chat with my personal adviser last week about possible work options and different sectors of employment.
to which my adviser told me about barnsley college coming to my local jobcentre to offer"SIA badge"
I have looked into SIA a little, but would like to ask,has any body here done this themselves?
as it is being held at the jobcentre but is being performed with a local college.
what will happen and how long would i be expected to be their?
and are the exams hard?
As I have tried other work,(order picker, tray wash etc) and didn't go too well.
And think that security work is definitely worth a try.

Can you tell me why being an order picker or tray washer didn't suit you? From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -
I can only guess why order picking didnt work for OP there are set targets to hit, and if OP couldn't hit those targets then h/she wouldn't get on with the job.0

Hi
The reason why I got sacked from 2 order picking jobs is that i found it difficult to get anywhere near the set picking rates and the harder i tried, the bigger mess i made of things(eg picking the wrong qauntites) as im sure i have discalcula as i was never brilliant at maths.
I would like to go back to order picking if im honest as the job itself isn't too dificult, and hope that in a possible order picking job,my pick rates just sort sort themselves out(like many have said"it just clicks")
as for the SIA license,i had been looking last night and this morning for security jobs and 99% of them in my area want full driving license, which i don't currently have, and experience and would also want me to deal with customers(which... i would find difficult as i find talking people i don't know, difficult.
I was tested for dyspraxia when i was very young,
I had thought about asking my personal adviser about being tested for this, but i don't want this to go on any record and possibly hold me back in future employment

if you find talking to strangers difficult then security is not for you
for the 'picking' work just concentrate on the accuracy and the speed will follow naturallyIMOJACAR

yeah, thats what i had thought before, think its probably best to get loads of sleep,go into work fully charged up as i believe this was probably the cause of my headache's and most likely the lack of being able to concentrate
Thanks

:rotfl:yeah,i would but i live it on 24/7 as it messes up the boot process with the temp gauges and what not
that dosen't bother me anyways as its quite, what does annoy me is... how i can lie awake, tired and really wanting to sleep, but keep thinking and can't seem to shut off:rotfl:0 -
Hi OP,
If the Job Centre are offering the SIA training and licence free of charge then why not go for it? The SIA training is usually 4 days (dependent on type of licence) and the cost of training is around £150. Then the actual cost of getting the licence is around the £250 mark. So if the Job Centre are paying for this then it's a good deal?
There are all kinds of security jobs out there. If you are not too keen on customer contact, many sites (construction, office etc) require night time cover whereby the only customer contact would be with intruders (if any) - in which case I wouldn't worry too much about customer service skills!
Good luck0 -
The SIA covers all the security industry from just monitoring CCTVs right through to close protection. If you are interested in security then you need to find out what kind of course the college is teaching and then what kind of security you can work with that particular badge if and when you pass. However I think this might just be something your advisor is suggesting and so you are only considering it so take heed as there has been talk of the SIA quango being axed since September. It hasn't happen yet but it might be something to bear in mind.Wins in 2015

to be honest, security would bore the pants off me,as i would be just monitoring something at least, where as i need to fulfill a more active role in employment and actually be walking around. And don't think i would make a great security guard either :rotfl: 6ft2 and weigh in at 10 stone0
