Need to leave tenancy early due to pregnancy-related disability

  • Thanks for the replies, everybody. I may not have stressed how bad my condition is. I am on crutches and may need a wheelchair by the end of my pregnancy and only have the use of one arm as it is- there's no question of "managing" the stairs. There is no lift. I'm not being negative, just practical.

I'll go and seek some face to face advice with the contract in hand.

That's a good idea. However there are people here who can advise on your rights and obligations if you provide answers to the questions asked. We're not being nosey - the rights you have depend on the answers to the questions!

You didnt mention you were on crutches till now.
You didnt mention that you only have one arm in use.

Your first post says its a flat, then you say 'house' on more than one occasion.

Unless things are clear to start with, how can you expect people to help you with any meaningful reply.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

    OP -

The only replies to this thread that are giving you the correct advice are those posted by G_M, the rest are giving you dangerously inaccurate advice.

Please answer G_M's queries as I'm willing to bet my last mincepie they can give you better (read: correct) advice than you'll get from the CAB or your letting agent/landlord.

Minty - we are trying to help.. but we need answers to these questions in order to help giv eyou good advice... there are excellent landlords on here (including me) who know landlord and tenant law very well indeed and we are pleased to help.. but we do need the answers so that we can.

You sound in a right pickle and your LL does not sound very sympathetic.

you can get a lot of good legal information here.... try to answer our questions first....

I dont really know the answer to your predicament but if you bought your way put of your tenancy by paying till the end of next august and the LL finds a new tenant in the mean time then i think you may be able to claim some of your money back off him. Anyone know if this is correct?

It is pointless speculating until we know what kind of tenancy the OP has. If she prefers to go to CAB that's fine, but they'll start by asking the same questions!

Find someone to take over the tenancy. Offer to pay £100 of their rent until (some month) ... cheaper than you paying for it all ... or offer someone some cash up front to take it over.
