I need to sort insurance for my 3 month old kitten as well, people keep tellingme to go with petplan, asthey are established and will have no problems paying out. Plus the vets can deal direct. I'm thinking extra premium for this may be worth it?Mortgage Free Wannabe Light Bulb Moment (Early 2012, started May 2012)

I would recommend petplan, vets can claim direct from petplan for the fees so all you have to pay is the excess. Most other insurance companies require you to pay the balance up front and then claim back the balance yourself. If you had a bill of hundreds of pounds (sometimes thousands if need to see a specialist) would you have the funds to pay the bill? I know i wouldn't so my cat is insured with petplan.0 -
It really depends on the vet to agree or not to claim directly from the insurer or to ask owner to pay all and claim themselves.
When I was with M&S my then vet only asked my to pay excess and was claiming directly from M&S whatever was due.
I guess different vets different procedures with different isurers as some are good to pay out quick and some do not.0 -
I've had pets all my life, particularly cats and mostly when living at home. When DH and I bought our cat, we decided it was best to get him some insurance as a provision. We pay about £8 a month, but it has come in handy and I'm definitely glad we decided to get it. He has an over-active thyroid and has been on a course of antibiotics since June, with an operation due at the beginning of January. It has (and will continue) to, cost us an absolute fortune, all of which we couldn't have afforded without pet insurance.
We have ours with Tesco. I would say, that if you really can't afford the insurance, at least make sure you have money set aside for any unexpected fees.Be Kind, Work Hard, Stay Humble, Smile Often, Keep Honest, Stay Loyal, Travel When Possible, Never Stop Learning, Be Thankful Always and Love0 -

We use Debenhams for our 2 dogs and got it through Quidco - lots cheaper than petplan and the likes.0
