What can I do to get a debit card?

I am currently with Lloyds as after 2 years of trying wioth Barcleys they wont upgrade my account to have "adult facilties":rolleyes:
Now I opened an account with Lloyds about 7-9 months ago and am desperate for a debit card so I can pay my bills on time with my own card. I have to mess around asking folk if I can give them money and it gets confusing and they are getting annoyed with it as it has been going on for about 5 years now(since the bank took my switch card off me) and my life would be much simpler if I had one.
Am I at the right bank for moving forward or am I stuck with a cash card that can only be used at Lloyds(very very annoying) machines until the defaults have been removed?

gaet a natwest basic step acocunt, u get a solo card with that.

Well I tried that with HSBC as they offered me a solo card 2 years ago but when I went in to open the account they said they couldn't confirm my identity(not on ER and "fraud team unable to trace me even though I had several forms of ID inc passport, DL and bills etc) and they wouldn't touch me for a basic cash card account!
If I go to Lloyds and ask them to upgrade and they say no will it hamper my chances of going to Natwest and getting one?

llyods and hsbc seem to be really really slow at upgrading you... my mum has had an account with them for over 18years and she has never been given a card upgrade... where as myself (with natwest) went from a step account (with solo card) from aged 12 to a current account at 20 (i never asked for this they just gave it to me) which you can have if youa re over 18 anyway... see it you can open another account... thats should do the job even if its just a solo... try and avoid visa electrons as i know some companies (online and over the phone) will not accept payment with these

Thank you peeps, I shall get down to Natwest tomorrow as I am off all week and need to go into town tomorrow anyway so can do it while I am there

Or if you have a Yorkshire Bank near you, open one of their ReadyCash Accounts as they can offer a Maestro Debit Card, which is pretty much the standard debit card now. Much more functionality than the Solo.

out of interest. is the Maestro card classed as a full debit card or like a solo/electon in that it could be given to under 18's?

what is Maestro? Visa etc?

a maestro is the old switch... simaler to solo you cant spend what you havent got in your account but it is more widely accepted than solo and visa electron... although shops are accepting the latter more too a maestro is only avalible for over 18's and yes its a full debit card... also with a maestro it can also act as a cheque gaurentee card (if you bank supports this)...

a visa and mastercards are totally different... these are credit cards

Apart from the Visa debit card which as the name suggests is a debit card. Used to be called Delta

yep that one too :T but they arnt as popular it seems to be visa electrons (the same/simmaler as deltas)
