Laptop Startup Problems after Windows Updates??

Hi,
I don't know if anyone can help me but I would appreciate some advice. I have had the following happen to me 3 times now in the past few days.
I shut my computer down and it says it needs to install 13 updates (Dell Laptop Vista) so it does all that fine. When I come to start up again it won't fully start it's just black screen with white writing and ends on a screen saying registry something??
So I power it down using the power button and restart and it advises me to do startup repair which I do and it fixes it.
But then a couple of days later it installs these 13 updates again on shut down and does the same thing again.
How do I find out which update is making it do this - and surely as these are window updates it shouldn't do this?
Does anyone have any advice for me? Please

Windows updates can sometimes cause such problems. It's probably only one of them causing the issue though. If you switch from automatic updates to letting you choose whether to install them, you can then do them one by one until you find the problem one. Rather time consuming with so many, another way would be to list the pending updates without installing them on here and maybe somebody might be able to say which have caused problems.

Turn off auto upating. Go to Windows update, select view update history, select installed updates, remove the last updates. Restart. If problems persist use systems restore to go back to the point before you installed them. Then, in future, follow Victor2s advice.0
