Problem with prepaid meter?
Options
Hi
Noticed something odd with my prepaid electric meter. Yesterday, I was down to about £1 emergency credit so I popped out and put a tenner on the key - that brought me up to around £1 credit.
I checked the meter again roughly 5 hours later and it said £3.50 emergency, although I never put the emergency on and the electric never went out... somehow it went on to emergency by itself and £7 or so had disappeared in 5 hours? I know fuel prices are high but this is just complete robbery.
Checked the meter this morning and it was down to £1 emergency again so I went out and put £30 on the key and I've been keeping an eye on it since.
I'm going to have to look for any old letters from the electric supplier I may have put away as I don't remember who supplys my electric. Has anyone had a problem like this before??

There could be a few things that has done this.Firstly you may have left the key in the meter and this accessed the emergeny credit. Also the emergency credit may have kicked in during the non disconnection period. This is a safety feature that will typically keep your supply on from 8pm - 8am approx and will use emergency credit
With regards to the usage, how is you home heated? If it electrical heating then this may be normal use as Storage heaters will use a high amount of units presently
Hope this helps a little0
