We had a Worcester Greenstar 28i Junior boiler installed August 2009. It's been great - but what a day for it to fail. The re-set button flashes - I hold it in for a few seconds and let go - the green eco light and orange spanner light and red re-set button illuminates for a few seconds - then it seem to burble into life but not for long. Then it's back to the re-set button flashing. Anyone any ideas?
This is a bit urgent and I may end up posting it elsewhere.
Thanks T

Chances are your condensate pipe is blocked or frozen.
Its the plastic one that drips when the boiler is running.

You may need to take the front of the boiler to check the condensate tank, these are usually transparent.

The manual is available on line .

or here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cggwnZhvTPk

  • First of all, relax and put the kettle on. Take it outside and tip it over the plastic white pipe - condensate pipe - if its frozen it should sort it. If you can try and loosen the pipe off the wall - (you might not be able to if its been glued together properly) then it will be easier to sort.

    I tried this:

I don't know where this condensate pipe is - checked out the back but can't see it. I have contacted the installers - glad it's still under warranty. Thanks everyone for there comments
I don't think I'll take the front off the boiler - not with it being under guarantee and, hopefully, and engineer on his way. All I can see, on the wall, near the boiler, is a load of copper pipes and one white plastic pipe. There is a valve on one of the copper pipes - a red switch with numbers on it - but I think I'll wait for the engineer

The white plastic pipe is your condensate pipe.

  • The engineer phoned and told me to pour boiling hot water over the condensate pipe - and wait 15 minutes. Two kettle-loads later (still waiting)...

    Keep at it.

A hosepipe attached to next doors hot tap would work better if this is possible,
On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.

You may have to wait for a little time for the water sensors in the condensate syphon tank to dry out.
It should then be possible to reset the boiler.
The engineer is repeating what the video i posted some time ago told you to do.

Is the end of the pipe open, can you see anything coming out?

  • Not possible to check if water is coming out - I like the next door hosepipe idea. Next door said the condensate pipe should have been insulated. If the engineer calls out perhaps he will be motivated to insulate the pipe and prevent this happening again. Would insulating the pipe help prevent further freezing?

Insulating the pipe is a good idea.
    Where does the pipe go?
You could try unscrewing the cap on the condensate syphon to drain it, google for the installation manual , the information is on page 28.

OP, have you tried pressing the reset button now that you've attempted to unfreeze the condensate pipe, personally I've used a hairdryer in the past.

It's a very common problem and tbh I'd blame the installer, they should have really fitted a 32mm or even 40mm pipe where the condensate exits the property to prevent this sort of thing happening.
