Domain name help

I registered a new domain name for my website a fortnight ago on google. I now see that when I use the google search engine (just testing its existence) that the website is at the top of any search but in MY old tiscali settings as before. However the same site which is registered in the new domain name is ALSO in google but way way near the bottom of any search.
Do I have to do something to rid my old tiscali website name to allow the new proper domain name to take preference.
I hope I have explained this clearly.
I am a lady of a "certain age" and so need very simple instructions.....smiles.
Thanking you in advance

It takes time for a website to get up the google rankings.

There is a theory that google intentionally reduces the rankings of new sites (called sandboxing) but personally I do not really believe in this but no one outside of google has true proof one way or another.

What is known though is that one of the ranking criteria is the number of external sites/ pages that link to yours and what their respective rankings are. If you have exchanged links with others or people have randomly linked to your site you need to get them to update the link to the new address and then have to wait for google to re-index those pages to note the change.

Search Engine Optimisation unfortunately doesnt have effects over night.

  • Might be worth putting a simple page on the tisacli site redirecting to the new one.
