Stockholm/Rome

Can anyone reccommend a central hotel in either Stockholm or Rome for the last week in April for 2 nights! (e.g. 27th-29th??) Around the £300-£400 mark and for 2 adults flying from any London airport?

I would like walking distance to most attractions and possible breakfast inc.

Many thanks !

  • Hotel for £300-400 or flights+hotel for £300-400? What sort of standard of hotel are you after?

I can only really speak for Stockholm...

In Stockholm you'll have quite a lot of choice as you'll be there about a week before the start of cruise season - there'll be a lot of hotel availability.

With regard to flights, your cheapest option is unfortunately Ryanair from Stansted to either Skavsta or Västerås, or from Gatwick to Skavsta (the flight from Gatwick is a nicer experience). Both airports are small and around 80 mins away by bus. You will want to wait another month or so before booking to get the cheapest deals.

If you don't like Ryanair or want to arrive somewhere a bit more convenient, Norwegian flies to the 'proper' airport of Arlanda from Gatwick for around £30 per person each way if you book early enough, including all taxes, fees etc (but not baggage). City centre is 20min on the train or around 40min on the bus. It's a pretty decent airline and they actually treat you like a human.
  • Hotelwise the following should be good value:

    Hotel Hellsten
    Hotel Riddargatan
Park Inn Stockholm Hammarby Sjöstad (a little farther out but very good)
    Hotel Birger Jarl

It might be worth your while looking to stay over a weekend so that you can take advantage of the Hilton half price sale and bag the Hilton Stockholm Slussen (v good hotel) at a knock-down price.
