Dual Pricing in Hotel

Does anyone know if dual pricing is allowed in hotels, for example a pie at a bar costs £5 but if you bought the same item, made in the same kitchen, served by the same staff in the restaurant of the venue they charged you £15. Or if you booked a function there and you were charged £15 for the pie?
There's no question that it's a different venue or that the bar and restaurant/function room operate seperately from each other

You will e paying for two totally different srvice standards even though they are on the same premises.

If it was me i would try and at least make the expensive one look slightly superior....lol.

In the good old days did pubs that had public and lounge bars not charge slightly more in the lounge bar?

Pie in a bar , shoved on the bar , kept in a warm oven , then onto a plate , served on the bar with your beerby a bar person who is doing their job. You pay for bar staff and bar to be cleaned.

Pie in the restaurent , cooked fresh for your enjoyment served with potatoes and veg and a nice jug of gravy , by a smiley waiter/ waitress who needs to be paid and makes sure your drinks are brought to you.. You pay for the seat , cutlery to be washed , food to be cooked , carpets to be cleaned etc etc

Same pie , served to your room as above by a room service attendent , and extra £5 why , for the convieniance for u to be able to stuff ur face watching tv in bed.

One pie 3 functions , the joy of the hospitality trade :-)

  • One pie 3 functions

In the case of a tesco "value" steak and kidney pie, the 3 functions would be

    Doorstop,
    Paperweight,
Self defence implement in case you are mugged on your way home from the supermarket.

There was even a case a few years ago when one of the pub chains was selling beer from a single barrel under two different names at the bar, and charging different prices for the two 'types' of beer. It was being sold as the pub chain 'value' beer out of one tap, and under its proper name out of the other tap.

Apparently there were some customers who refused to drink the 'value' beer as it was "horrible", but were perfectly happy with the the other.
  • The only thing Brenda puts in the pie at the Dog and Duck is a load of hot air, be grateful that you had a choice of where to eat your pie.

A well known element in psychology, of thinking the more expensive product tastes better.

Of course you're allowed to sell the same item for different prices. However stating there are two different products when there is only one product seems like passing off to me and if not illegal is very dodgy!

It also apparently works with painkillers - in tests, people have said that the well-known brands work longer/better than the generic/supermarket ones - even though they're, basically, the same ingredients and doses (for the most part).
