Help needed.
A friend's laptop needed a complete reformat which i said i would do as i know slightly more than him.
I have got all uploaded and drivers up and running but am having trouble wirelessly connecting to my internet connection. The laptop is running XPhome edition and my internet connection is o2. I have security key set at wpa2-personal.
I can pick up four other connections as well as my own however this is where i'm getting stumped.
The other 4 connections when clicked on ask for a network key(wep/wpa) but when i click on my network i get message
" Windows is unable to connect to the selected network." The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks and try to connect again".
I don't understand why this only appears on my wireless network!!!
Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciative.
Thanks

Have you updated the laptop with all the latest Microsoft security patches....? also have you done this OFFline to prevent it getting infected connecting it to the internet while unpatched? do you have the latest version of the driver for the network card (try this after the above)0

wireless routers can transmit over a range of channels, depending on the country you are in, there are certain channels you may not be able to access - so if the network card was produced for one of these countries it would not normally be able to reach the higher channels - also older cards may not reach higher channels either.
usually channels are 1 - 11, 12 or 13.
also if windows XP is not updated it may only support WEP encryption - but in this case you may be able to see the network, just not connect to it.
are you using windows own network connection tool, or the network cards own connection application?Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0
