well ive been searching the forum now for the last 3 hours for advice on which laptop to get. i think ive just confused myself now, lol
ive got a buget of £600 and i want a laptop that i can do mutiple tasks on quickly. (the one i have now is soo slow) i do a bit of photo editing as well. i just got myself into a twist about the best makes and the best processers, light scribe, finger print readers..
the best all rounder in my buget would be good as i wont be gettin another for a few years.
any advice would help.

Unless you have got a particular need for a high spec one, a £300-£350 machine would probably meet your requirements, but before you splash the cash, have a look at why your laptop is slow, it's often surprising easy to fix. Older laptops are capable of multitasking too

Have a look at tomshardware.co.uk for processor benchmarks. Once you have an idea of which processor to go for, decide how much RAM 4GB for a ~£600 laptop, what screen size you want then try to find some recommendations. If you can't find any, just pick the "top selling" laptops, or ones around your bugdet from a handful of retailers and search specifically for reviews of those particular laptops. After a while you should find one that meets your performance expectations, is within budget, and has been well reviewed...
Personally I think Lightscribe burners and finger-print readers are expensive novelties that I wouldn't use... I'd rather to spend the money on better quality hardware...
Hope this helps a bit...0 -

you mention stuff like light scribe, finger print readers
are there any specific features that you consider absolutely must have for your new laptop e.g screen size
also you say light photoshop will that be the most demanding thing you do with it? do you play games like sims etc?..0 -
thanks for your replies. the toshiba i have now is running real slow and its a 17" i fancy a normal 15" screen and also i am the only one in the household still running vista so windows 7 will be nice too.
from what ive been reading on here i think the core i5 would be nice.
i will have a look at tomshardware.co.uk now and see what i can find. thanks for pointing me in the right direction0 -
Was it slow when you bought it?!!

What is the full model number of your Toshiba? PS********
There is likely no need for a new laptop. Time for a Factory Restore and possibly more RAM. £15 to £30 for another 1 or 2GB of RAM together with a Factory Restore will make you machine quicker than when new.
Don't waste your money on a new laptop that will bring you little in new benefits, other than perhaps a longer battery life.
Let's get the best from the current model before moving on.0 -
yes its not been the best but its done me for what i needed so far.Was it slow when you bought it?
a 15" screen size would be better for me now as i take laptop to work. light scribe and things i dont really need at all.
i dont really play games.
i am hoping to do a lot more photo editing and would like to be able to use it for music editing as well.
o if i was being really picky i would like a nice shiney keyboard as well cos im really not impressed with the textured ones......
and also i usually have laptop on my knees so i dont fancy one of those hp that burn..

thanks for your advice stilltheone
i have done a factory restore and it runs a bit better but to be hones i really do want a smaller more portable laptop now and i want windows 7.....i have to keep up with the kids..lol0 -
Speed is curable, reducing the weight isn't. It certainly shouldn't be slow after a factory restore unless you've added things, try a lighter virus scanner(avast), and disable defender realtime scanning
Nothing you've specified needs a high powered processor

shoosh op wants a new shiny lappie

i guess if the most demanding thing you will use is photoshop, as you have nice budget maybe aim for a quad core and at least 3gb ram? otherwise just think about little things like battery life, temperatures etc.. my friend at work fell asleep with laptop and next day he had to go to hospital ocs of serious burns0
