Pinto - every time. Although I now use a mix of the 20 or so beans I grew last summer....pinto is my default for chilli.
And if they are crunchy - they need to be cooked more [boiled first, only add when they are soft]0 -

White haricot beans are the beans in most baked beans. Pinto are very similar though.

soya beans are lush in chilli - they're a bit pricy sometimes though, I only get them when they're on offer - they give it a much lighter "greener" flavour if you know what I mean. I also use chickpeas a lot and they work fine.0
