Best cards for use in Europe?

Hi Guys,
We go to Europe with our camper van several times each year, and up until now, we have used Nationwide cards, both credit and debit have given us free transactions in Europe. Nationwide have now withdrawn their free 'cash withdrawal' with their debit card in Europe.
We have always taken just a small amount of Euros' away with us, because it is usually a better exchange rate when over there, and then drawn from ATM machines with our debit card for 'readies'!!
Bigger expenses like fuel and the odd restaurant meal, or any other unexpected expenses we use our credit card, which is settled every month by direct debit.
Can anyone tell me which are the best cards to use now? There are so many competing..its difficult to see the wood for the trees. We really try not to incur charges, as we don't use credit for our travels, we only do what we can afford.
All suggestions and ideas greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Jackie ;)

We too have the NW debit card, but mainly we use our NW credit card when possible.

We also now have the HBOS Clarity card, and since we are HBOS customers we get £5 if we spend £300 on it in a month.

I think the NW card is still competitive for withdrawing cash compared to other accounts. However we are going to use our HBOS Clarity cards for cash as there is only the interest to pay.

We have a DD to repay the full balance, but we could also repay sooner via internet to minimise interest.

We are travelling with caravan, not so different from you, and we too only travel within our budget.
