flight cancelled - rebooked to differant airport

As title, My Dad was on holiday and due to fly back to Luton today but flight was cancelled. They have got him on a flight back tomorrow and have put him in a hotel for tonight but his new flight is to Gatwick. Will he be able to claim for getting from Gatwick back to Luton or is it a case of your back in the UK sort it out your self now. I'm not sure what time the flight is but the train doesn't go direct from Gatwick to Luton and there is no connection at night between Victoria and St Pancras so I don't know how he is going to get back. Damn snow.
Nothing to see here, move along.

yea but will they cover it, if he gets a taxi back? I might just try and drive down to get him myself.

Is it down to the airline to get you back to your original destination?

    I've been Money Tipped!
Check to see if they are putting busses on to get people to Luton.

first capital connect run trains from Gatwick to Luton. If there is no direct train, you can change at St Pancras very easily with all trains northbound running from the same platform.

  • The airline has a contract to get you from a to b not c. They should lay on transport to final destination. If not they will reimburse you for PUBLIC transport but not for taxis.
  • my flight from jersey to bristol was cancelled a few months back there was a few hours delay and we flew to birmingham 5 of us were then put in a people carrier and transfered to bristol airport straight away

The EU regs says they must get you to the airport originally booked. He shouldn't have to pay anything upfront.

There IS 24x7 transport between Victoria and St Pancras though - the 73 bus. But unless he arrives at Gatwick late in the evening there should be trains direct from there to Luton - weather here permitting. No need to go to Victoria

Has he actually checked with the travel agent/airline what they intend to do once they get to Gatwick?

I've been diverted from Gatwick to Luton in the past and ariline have laid on coaches back to Gatwick.

My flight was from Sharm to Newcastle but eventually they took us to Manchester. We then has buses laid on until they couldn't source any more buses so started using taxis. Then they put the remaining people on the train - only the train got cancelled. But we have been reimbursed for all expenses from laning at Manchester 1am until we finally arrived at Newcastle Airport 4pm, this includes food too. We were told by Jet2 to claim through them not our travel insurance which we did and all has been fine.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
