Renault Scenic brake light switch....easy job?

WD40 is fine for freeing a sticky actuator on a switch,i use it for this purpose regularly.
but if i need to clean electrical contacts then i use brake cleaner or contact cleaner, this is a dry solvent spray that evaporates leaving no lubricant behind.
2 totally different problems....work permit granted!0 -
And back to my original post, get yourself into the footwell and spray it with WD40. It's safe on electrics and if the switch is indeed sticking then you have a chance of unsticking it. At worst it's cost you 5 minutes of effort and a minor squirt of WD40 rather than a trip to Maplins and / or a chemistry set and a spanner and screwdriver to disassemble and reassemble the broken switch.
Buy this, buy that, don't use WD40 on electrics, jeez guys! For the sake of one quick squirt of WD taking seconds it's worth a punt. If it fails then just get a new switch. Some of the suggestions and implied horror stories over such a simple problem defy belief!0 -
I don't really think cleansing came in to the equation. It would act as a lubricant/penatrant in this case, which would free up the switch if it was partially seized. WD40 isn't intended to clean componants, and I'd be inclined to use Brake/Carb cleaner to "clean" certain items and never WD40.
Unfortunately the residue it leaves can hold dust, which if the switch is physically jammed would over time only exacerbate the problem. Which is why I don't use the stuff.0 -
Thanks a lot for all the replies! :beer:0
