Not too sure about the clamping ending soon either. It wasn't in the freedom bill in November, and

"Ministers plan to include the ban in the Freedom Bill which will be introduced before February 2011. The Bill is unlikely to receive Royal Assent before autumn 2011. It will then be necessary to introduce secondary legislation to bring the ban into force."

doesn't sound good for 2011 either.
  • The more interesting question is "Why are there ppc trolls in a locked (assumed)and gated parking compound? There won't be unwanted parkers.

If there is a management company running the premises, they may have an arrangement with the PPC to police resident parking, although, if I lived there and was wrongly clamped, i would sue the PPC AND the Management company for return of the fee and costs.

BTW I can't see why they would use a PPC on a gated compound either.

Who is this Mikey fella? He seems quite a fan of the old wheel clamp. The choice between an unused space (for over one year I might add) and parking on street in an unsavoury part of town is a pretty simlpe one. And for the record I always leave a note with my mobile just in case.
Anyway, back (sort of) to the point of this thread...found the following post regarding a similar situation. No clamp this time or impounding...just slashed tyres and broken windows. Of course it is only conjecture (and we have a new suspect...where were you Mikey on the night in question?) but interesting nonetheless.

Oh, you'd be surprised. There is plenty on offer for the cunning PPC troll. They throw a non-numbered non-visitor bay in the middle of a line of visitor bays. Ker-ching. People parking on the road (although not causing an obstruction). Ker-ching. Known empty appartments and cars in their bays. Ker-ching.

Interestingly people park on the side of the road in non-bays down by the very expensive town houses without reprimand.

Probably the bit where you said

"That would be illegal, they cannot legally clamp you for an alleged debt,"

Maybe you just didn't read my question properly, or thought you wrote something else initially.
If you don't write what you mean, don't complain if you get asked what you're on about.

Thanks for your calm response though.

Can I come and park on your drive?

I think Taffy was pretty clear in his initial response and I would put forward that maybe Mikey didn't understand my question. My question, in hopefully plainer English, is can I get clamped/towed for an alleged debt if I only now park 'legally' on their site?
I did not ask if I can I get clamped in future for continuing to flout the rules, set forth by the aforementioned parking company, by parking in my neighbours empty bay?
I hope this un-muddies the waters.

And where does the ker part of kerching end up? If you catch my drift. There can only be a pecuniary element in it for someone or else why bother in a private, secure car-park.

Not me your honour, ask taffy, I was parked on his drive on the night in question.
  • What is really amusing is that New Generation Parking has a name and shame section on its website that promises to name and shame the operators that bring the otherwise lilllywhite and ethically driven parking enforcement 'industry' into disrepute. Suprisingly there is nobody mentioned, perhaps they should be the first.
Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!
