Some people do and some don't like HM and some people can surprise you and themselves! I certainly have relatives were the phrase 'know the price of everything and the value of nothing' applies' ;) and would definately look down their noses at anything homemade.

OTOH I know that some slow gin and blackberry and elderberry jam is making my way to me next week from my MIL who has been foraging and I am really looking forward to getting them.:j

Child-minder - what about something foodwise if drink and smellies are out?
  • thanks- sitting thinking of maybe the shortbread tree ive seen on here, plus we colected pine cones and DD scented them and we made bag up for childminder.

I don't mean to sound unkind, but if I were you I wouldn't give a stuff about anyone who'd look down their noses at a gift, homemade or not!!! A gift is just that - it should be appreciated!!!

I always view something homemade as extra special - it's very easy to go out and buy something... anything... for someone, but it shows a lot of thought and time taken to actually make something for someone :)

I have only bought gifts for the children in our family this year, all the gifts for the adults are homemade - chilli vodka, fruits in rum, shortbread cookies, truffles. If anyone complains they are more than welcome to give it back and I'll eat it myself!!!!!!! :rotfl:

    Enjoy your making!

we made the teacher and ta's homemade cookies which I let the kids make themselves and then decorate and then I bagged then up in pretty cellophane and ribbon for them. It went down a treat! The kids got a good hour of creativity and learning and the teachers loved it - no brainer (I just got to clean up but hey ho that is what moms do...)!

Look if they don't appreciate it then it is their problem, not yours.

As for the childminder, get them to make a picture and colour it in?
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Childminder -I've not seen the shortbread tree on here but you could make a pot of gold or snowman soup or a mini hamper combination of both of them and there isn't any actual making to do, just buying and wrapping.
  • I love homemade gifts - always great to get something that someone has put time & effort into. However I know that this doesn't apply to everyone...

  • my kids both made there presents for there teachers (2 and 9) and the teachers loved them.
I think theres a homemade gift for everyone you just have to know what that gift is.
those that you think wouldn't like homemade don't tell them they can think you got it from a craft fair or special shop and you will have self satfication you made it.
for your childminder I think they would love home made my kids made there teachers homemade shopping bags (9 year old sewed her own) and put hand prints on it then they put a bag of reindeer poo in each.
    how about a snowman soup?
I think them trees are amazing and simple to make

i love home made gifts so much more thought i think are put into them and they are made to suit the person who is recieving them, i have already made a start on next xmas's gifts as i have a lot to get through and some orders already for some jewellery, 2011 looks like a good year already :)

  • I would love a hm gift but no one does them in my family. If I recieved 1 I would be so happy as you know someone has been thinkin about what you like and what sort of gift would suit you instead of getting a pack of smellies which they more than likely picked up on a whim !
