do people really appreciate homemade gifts?

Ive made a few homemade gifts for teenage girls this year, but do people really appreciate it. my in laws would hate it they just about put up with DD school play on DVD from her. Also any ideas on what to make for childminder who is very difficult- cant use 'smellies' due to asthma and ecemza, doesnt drink- HELP please…

Generally yes, I like homemade gifts but it really depends what it is to be honest.

For example, my friend made me some beautiful rose flavoured cup cakes, packaged in a pink box for my birthday - I loved them and really appreciated the effort.

However, a cheap flannel with eyes and pipe cleaners stuck on it, is my idea of homemade hell!!
