Repeated pop ups asking me to update Java. How can I turn off the update function? Or if I get uninstall Java what functionality will I lose (never use it to my knowledge)?
ps - the Java control panel has a tick box for 'update' but it's not highlighted so I can't un-tick.
And whan I log in as Administrator, the update tab on control panel isn't there.

^^You almost certainly do use it /or the computer does -- perhaps unknowingly

Download CCleaner and run it as administrator. Then you can go to Tools>Startup and delete the entry for Sun Java update scheduler. Problem solved.Repeated pop ups asking me to update Java. Java is one of the more annoying updates - the update files are huge, they install alongside rather than replacing old versions, taking up even more space on your hard drive, and they are pointless - hardly any consumer malware targets Java as a vector.poppy100 -
I take it you do update it or try to, you dont knowingly user java, its used by the computer or websites to display images so i believe0

My personal recomendation is to update java when it asks. Ive also found older firefox entries need to be manually uninstalled (Not doing this can create running problems of firefox):idea:0
