Halifax Credit Card Account Re-Opened?

Hi all, hoping for some advice on an old credit card account.
I had a credit card account with Halifax which was cleared and closed 2.5 years ago. I have just received a statement from this old account claiming I owe £29 for "CARDGUARD" dated 13/10/10. (I moved house a year ago and only just received this letter). Are they allowed to do this? Or is it a mistake on my part for not cancelling this cardguard thing? No doubt I will have some late fees\interest on this by now! Just want to know where I stand before ringing!?

When they close an account they send you a lovely letter saying "Please ensure you cancel all continuous payment authorities".
You didn't, and you remain liable (and your credit file my be impacted).0
