  • For a MSE solution, try putting a thick pair of old socks over your shoes/boots. I believe it works!!!

Socks do work, thinking back to my childhood and using a pair of my Dad's old socks over my shoes. Trouble is, it might be difficult to get a pair of socks big enough to go over adult-sized boots.

Just returned after an hour's trek over pavements of compacted ice/snow and am I pleased I got my WinterTrax:j

I've been using the Crocs wellies called "Georgie" - they look a bit like massive pixie boots.

I've found them very good for several reasons. Like all crocs they are comfortable and warm to the touch and I think this helps them grip snow and ice. I don't have to wear massive socks inside because they are warm so you can use your feet and toes to grip too. Also they are very wide so they act a bit like snow shoes (tennis raquet style).

With normal wellies the snow and ice tends to get compacted in the treads making them slick and dangerous after a while. This doesn't happen with the crocs ones because they are quite flexible.

Definitely a winner for me ... even though they do look a bit silly.

Well, I've got them and think they're brilliant. I was just able to walk normally on the icy pavements. I wouldn't have been able to go out this morning without them.

YakTrax are amazingly fantastic on snow n ice!!

You stop still instead of sliding!!

They are not too bad to get on/off whilst wearing your shoes.

Wore them today most of the way over 6km walk, They are weird under bridges / where there is no snow n ice and you can't keep removing them for a few paces.

    10/10
