Help me transfer files and programs from a broken desktop to a laptop - please

hi

my desktop is busted (PSU I think) but i can access the hard drive thanks to a S-ATA > USB cable. I want to transfer some files and my itunes library to a laptop untill the desktop has been repaired, and then back again. I don't really have a clue as to what i am doing.

When i have connected the cable, I can browse the drive with windows explorer. I see an itunes folder with loads of files in but can't see the library. What should i transfer across and how do i go about it? Can i just drag and drop onto the laptop? should i make a temporary file and if so - how?

What else should i transfer across or delete from the hard drive before sending off to be repaired?

Hope this is not too confusing and somebody can help me.

I wouldn't send the computer off WITH the hard drive for a Power Supply replacement.

Remove it from the desktop first. No repairer worth their salt will need a hard drive in place to fit a power supply.

Buy a Hard Drive USB caddy, and put the HDD in there and connect it to the laptop if need be, but surely you'll be going back to the desktop when it's repaired, so why do you need the iTunes library moved? Surely the computer won't be away so long that you can't get by with your iPod as is?

I can't be sure it's the PSU, but thats what the telephone support suggested. I don't think they want me to send it without the hard disk in place.

i wanted to move my itunes library so that it is saved as last time i returned the computer they wiped everything on the hard drive.

Good for them. I don't think you want to send it WITH the hard drive in place, for exactly the same reason as stated in your second sentence.....

They wiped your hard drive already, and you STILL want to send it to the same people for repair ?!!?!?!??!

Excuse me, but !!!!!!, WHY ?!?!?!

Because it is still under warranty, so it would be a free repair.
Can anybody actually help me to move this stuff onto the laptop or direct me to some web instructions on how to do it please.
