Please check your British Gas bill carefully if you've rejected their price hike

Hi
Title says it all really.
Have been with British Gas for several years for both gas and electricity.
I switched to EDF at the end of November using the recent welcome bonus/cashback offer.
I also wrote to British Gas telling them: that I was rejecting their price hike on 10th December, that I was going to switch, and that I would continue to pay their pre-10th December prices until the switch took place.
BG wrote back saying that they would make sure I wouldn't be subject to their new prices until the switch went through.
Received my gas bill today, and it shows that they have indeed billed me at the new higher rate since 10th December. I phoned them and a really helpful guy apologised for the mistake and said that he would put it right.
It could well have been a genuine mistake on their part. But please check your bill carefully to make sure that you're not being charged their higher price if you've previously contacted them to reject the new rate.

Good advice and makes sense to check all bills thoroughly in general.
I too am awaiting switch from BG to EDF and had the same letter as you did.
Let's wait and see when my bill arrives!0 -
Further to my original post... I received my electricity bill from British Gas yesterday.
Once again, like my gas bill mentioned above, they have again billed me at the higher rate since 10 Dec.
Another phone call to them.
*sighs*0 -
Yep - exactly the same situation as fordmanchester. Changed to EDF at the same time, informed BG that I reject the price hike, received reply from BG assuring me I would be billed at pre December 10th price. Bill arrived yesterday (31st Dec) with hiked prices and way over estimated.
I gave BG my final meter reading on the 30th Dec so will wait for that bill to come through, then probably have to telephone to point out that they have incorrectly charged the higher prices. Why can't these companies get it right - they all seem totally incompetent?0 -
Same here.
I have an email from British Gas in November assuring me the price rise would be blocked. Received gas and electricity bills last week and the both had the price rise applied.
Phoned British Gas and they will look into it but say my electricity switch is progressing but insist EDF have never contacted them about me switching my gas supply.
EDF have sent me letters with dates for switching both.
The other thing the gas bill had was more units at the highest rate because the prices were split on 10th December0 -
I think this might be something to do with EDF?
BG have a clause that states they will only freeze prices if new supplier gets in touch with them within certain number of days. The trouble is, EDF are so damn slow..."fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0
