painting internal brown council type doors tips please!

my internal doors are a really strange size so instead of paying over the odds to replace I am considering painting. I would really appreciate some tips on getting the best finish i.e. do I need to sand?/what type of primer to use?/paint eggshell or gloss?/ roller or brush.?

All tips greatly appreciated!!!

I have never painted those door from brown to white, but have varnished them, and it took the varnish ok and didnt flake or anything.
If they are the ones I am thinking off, they are made not from wood but a sort of plastic to look like wood, therefore you wouldnt need wood primer, you would probably have to do 3-4 undercoats and 2 top coats , oil base would hold on the doors as it was oil base varnish I used.

Ooopps sorry I forgot to mention that eggshell is a flatter finish, satinwood has a bit of a shine to it, and gloss is very shiny, and you could use a sponge /mohair rad roller, and roll the doors.

I painted the same type of doors, 2 undercoats and 2 coats of gloss was ok but if you looked hard enough you could see some shades. 3 coats and they where as white as the daz man

I just sand the doors making sure any bumpy areas are smooth. I used Wickes white undercoat and primer. Then used Wickes top coat. Painted it twice. Make sure you don't put the paint on too thick as this causesd runs. Also make sure each coat is dry before you do the next. Your doors should look great.
