Free SD card recovery software?

Hello All- my SD camera card has suddenly decided it needs formatting and won't read any of the data on it. I have looked on Google for a free recovery programme but I am pulling my hair out ! Can anyone recommend an easy to use recovery programme which is free please ??

the same thing happened to me i think i used a free program called Recuva
just google Recuva and have a read. it worked for me

Thanks for the reply - tried running the software but seemed really complicated !! Is there a Windows freebie available ? Ran this one and it opened a DOS window and asked questions which meant nothing to me ! I just want to recover the pics on my SD card. Thanks.

Recuva is windows-based, and easy to use.

If I put sd card into computer I get the message "format card" but if I put card in via a card reader (from poundland) it works OK

Copy the data via the card reader onto your computer. Check the copying has worked OK and then just format the card.

Bear in mind that the card may be damaged/defective if this is a common problem, may be worth rescuing the data and replacing it, cards are cheap these days.
