E.on Energy fit software - strange behaviour

Options
Have been uploading my energy usage into the software that comes with e.on's energy meter. I've been doing this fairly often recently to monitor some newly installed storage heaters, and the figures on the monitor ( for last 7 days, last day, etc ) seemed to tally pretty well with the numbers in the software. Today, I downloaded the consumption data and everything is different - now the software is reporting roughly double the consumption (900+ kwh ) for the last seven days that the monitor is reporting.

I'm suspect that the software has somehow managed to download the same figures twice ( or more! ) - possibly because the software is a bit fragile if you download multiple times in the same 24hr period. Otherwise, it's some crazy retrospective estimation thing that the software is doing.

Has anybody else seen this? Is there better ( PC ) software that is compatible with the E.on monitor? The E.ON software is a bit rubbish in any event....

Many thanks,

Tom

I haven't seen it doubling data, but it always gives higher than the meter reports in my case. You can't select the days it downloads anyway, I believe it keeps a rolling 30 days history in memory.
The monitor is way out though and the more I look into it, the worse it gets. For example the daily usage figures for 1/12 show I used 16.21kWh in the day and 7.59kWh at night, totalling 23.8kWh for the day. My actual meter readings for the day (taken at about 7am each day) show 9.8kWh used on that day, with an average of 11.3kWh from 30/11 to 2/12. BUT the monitor itself shows I used 86kWh over the last 7 days while my meter readings show 75.5kWh. Still a discrepancy but more in the region of what I was used to.
Don't know of a way to access the data directly, but I bet there is as it is SQL based. Mind you if its stored data is rubbish, then it's going to be a case of garbage in, garbage out, as they say.

    Hi Tom

I'm afraid I'm no expert on the software that comes with our monitors; not even close.

However, we do have people who know much more about these things than me. I'd give our help desk a call and ask them the question. Contact details are in the info pack sent with the monitors.

For greater accuracy, I'd follow victor's advice and rely more on your meter.

Sorry I can't offer more detailed info but hope this points you in the right direction.

  • Our Energy Fit tracker is useless, it doesn't hold signal for long enough and seems to report half the kwh usage than is actually on the meter.

I was once told that it's a good idea to use it to see how much is being used at a specific moment in time (eg when the electric heaters, microwave, fridge, lights etc) are on (or not) so that you can see what your kwh usage would be if your appliances etc are left on - it'll show you how much you'd be using, and what needs to be turned off.

I've given up using it as a means to track usage, it just doesn't work...
