Virgin have cancelled my flight...

I was originally due to fly out tomorrow (Saturday) to Las Vegas via Virgin Atlantic and then on to Phoenix, but due to 'severe weather conditions' at Gatwick they have cancelled the flight.
Luckily I've managed to re-book the same flight (and times) for Sunday.

Now, I usually work on Saturdays but have taken it off as holiday therefore being too late to change anything with work I'm going to loose a days pay. Anyway - my question is, can I or am I entitled to any compensation for the cancelled flight from Virgin?

OR

Having travel insurance, is it a safer bet to claim on the insurance for the cancellation?

Advice on this would be much appreciated :j

As it's not their fault, they don't have to give you any compensation. All they have to do is offer you an alternative flight (which it sounds like they have done) or when an alternative flight isn't possible they have to refund the cost of the flight.

I'm near Gatwick and looking out of the window you might not want to count on being able to fly tomorrow either,

    Good luck though.

Keep an eye on https://www.gatwickairport.com to see if any flights depart around the same time as yours was scheduled to depart.

How are you losing a days pay. You booked it as holiday and you won't be working, you won't lose a days pay.

You have lost a day of your holiday, but you won't get a days pay for that. Standard response is rescheduling and food vouchers for the airport.

  • But you're not losing a days pay, you're losing a days holiday. You'd booked today off because you were meant to be going on holiday today.
