Apple MacBook - 2 repairs, a replacement and its faulty.. AGAIN

To cut the long story short...

On the 17th December 2009, i was bought a MacBook for a Christmas gift, everything was fine up until the 14th May, when i discovered their was 2 cracks from the hinges. I decided to look on the apple discussion boards, and noticed it wasnt just me with problems. I Decided to take it to my local retail store which is around 40 miles away. The genius told me that after looking on the CS code matrix he couldn't repair it under warranty, and that i'd have to contact applecare for a CS code to override that.

I contacted applecare, and was given a code to take to the store, which i did and i got the macbook replaced, which again was fine, this was until June.
I noticed that the macbook wouldnt boot, and the display module wouldnt work, so once again i contacted applecare, who advised me that there was a AASP closer to me, and to take it there for a repair. I took it to ACS in doncaster who once again repaired the macbook, and i got it back on the 3rd July, and was told that the apple store in meadowhall had incorrectly fitted the screen and left a gasket off which shorted the screen, and was lucky that the logic board wasnt shorted, They had to format my hard drive, so i lost all my college work, and work, which i didnt have backed up.

A week later the macbook went faulty again, so i contacted customer relations, and after several phonecalls, i was told that i needed to take it to the apple retail store, who would repair or replace the MacBook. On the 7th of July, i was issued with a replacement macbook that was working fine, and melinda from AppleCare checked up that my issue was resolved.
Over this past week (10-15th December 2010) i've had issues with the macbook not charging, after googling and finding on the apple support site that reseting the PRAM would help fix the issue, i tried this and indeed it did work for a few hours when the macbook switched off.

I disconnected the macbook from the mains supply, and left it a few hours, and tried switching it back on, when the macbook's fan blew very loud even though it was cool, so again i reset the nvram, pram etc, and it worked fine for another few hours when it switched off again.
It now won't charge, and their is no battery power remaining to reset the p/nv Ram, I've tried an additional power supply to no avail.

Question: After 2 repairs, and a replacement, would i be able to exchange for a macbook pro,(even if i need to add money myself) i'm sick of these macbooks going wrong

Or even a refund?

Quite possibly. My friends MacBook had been in for 2 repairs and when it was returned last month was faulty again. She called Apple, politely expressed displeasure and was immediately offered a replacement. She asked for the Pro and added £150 I believe to upgrade. Her MacBook was 2 years old.

Apple can be brilliant, smile sweetly and be polite, it gets you everywhere with them.

When it came back from repair, obviously still with a fault she called them. They organised a replacement MacBook over the phone. She called them back later and asked if she could upgrade.

It suprises me that you would want to upgrade after having so much trouble with an apple product. If that happened to me I would never buy anything by that manufacturer again. HP are usually very well made.

Apple after care is almost always second to none.

Update: took the macbook to an apple store, the problem lied with the charger, not the actual macbook.

    BUT.

the light constantly switches on and off on the charger, and sometimes isn't recognised... and, I've noticed on the lid, the plastic near the vent seems to be burnt/discoloured.

Thats now being 3 repairs, a replacement, which has had 3 faults... totally unacceptable.

I've contacted CR who've told me to take it to a store.. yet again.

Where do i stand with my rights? can i ask for a replacement, and pay for an upgrade to a pro?

i'm a student and being without my macbook for a week (if i send to apple) will really mess things up for me as i onyl have access to my macbook at home.

BTW rumoured new macbook pro's tomorrow (and Apple MIGHT not do macbooks anymore).

I would say a replacement and 3 repairs is really pushing it. I'd take it into the apple store, ask to talk to the duty manager and explain you've lost faith in the MacBook's ability to provide the stability you've become accustomed to in the past from apple and ask if they were to give store credit you would purchase a replacement MacBook Pro.

I mean theres not really any law stating company has X tries, but it does state under the SoGA that faults must be resolved in a reasonable time and without inconvenience to the consumer.

Okay, so this story carries on.

I didnt take it back, but i had it logged on apple's system about me having the problem, today i notice that the hinge has started to melt, and there is now 2 hairline cracks on the hinges, like there was in the beginning..

I really do think this is unacceptable, i have totally lost faith in this, how would i obtain my money back? or a replacement to the MBP?
