Why? Isn't anyone supposed to be able to open a basic bank account now?0 -
Open a basic bank account.
Open a savings account.
Go to a cheque cashing place and pay a fee.
Send it back to HMRC and ask them to adjust your tax code instead.
What happened when you tried to do the same with HSBC 5 months ago?
Or how about the Nat West First Reserve Account that made you so happy 9 months ago?0 -
You could go to a Cheque Cashing shop with ID, but it may cost you up to 10% of your £300. You could look for any new customer deals to lower the % / charges.
A basic bank account is the answer so you keep 100% of your cheque.0 -

it might be a stumbling block but theres other solutions0 -
Hi. I am sure if you return the cheque they will re-issue one that you can cash at a local Post Office.
The HMRC and also DWP staff seem to have this thing that they do not issue cheques. Except they do.
It's not routine now. But if you ask for a cheque, they cannot refuse.
Hope that helps.0 -
Can only assume the OP must have some sort of fraud conviction in the past. That seems to be the only real reason you can't get a bank account these days.0
